What is your strategy for teaching your child Mandarin? 3 key things we can do in the home right now to help our kids pick up Mandarin:
1. Speak more Mandarin, speak often! Our kids need to have a strong oral foundation in speaking and hearing Mandarin or it will aversely affect their ability to read and write. The same applies for English.
2. Create a print-rich environment in your home. It's not gonna look Scandinavian-chic with big ugly Chinese labels stuck on your furniture and fixtures, but the more your kids see Chinese words, the easier it is to recognize them.
3. Read Chinese books (just like how you'd read English books). Don't just read readers which has a different focus and function. Read beautiful stories, translated stories, award-winning stories. Because it's through these stories they will fall in love with the narrative, the characters, the lilt of the words and the beautiful detailed pictures.
Again, no stress, have fun and your kids will love spending the time with you!
